Description
An oil painting of The San Fernando Hill in San Fernando, Trinidad.
The San Fernando Hill featured in this painting is part of my fondest boyhood memories and experiences. I grew up in an area in San Fernando called "The Hundred Steps" that directly faced this hill. As my home was also on a hill, I had a direct view of this 640 feet beauty of nature every single day. As a young lad, I climbed this hill many times, hyked up the hill with friends, camped on the highest part of the hill with the church youth group and flew kites on the hill. As a student of Presentation College San Fernando, I saw the hill everyday, as the college is right next to the hill. We boys would climb the hill, using our hands, feet, vines and whatever we can grab on to, dirtying our school uniforms in the process, just for the fun of it. Of course, our teachers did not like the dirtying of school uniforms and late for class part after climbing the hill.
Even as a young adult, I still frequented the hill, sometimes just for quiet meditation and relaxation. The scene from the top of the hill is amazing and you get a panoramic view of the city of San Fernando. It stll remains one of the top tourist attractions in the city.
I present unto you my painting of The San Fernando Hill, a deep part my Trinidadian heritage.
